Hamilton, and George R.R. Martin, announced today that they will next tackle Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. The series, left unfinished by Jordan's death last year, covers eleven volumes, one sequel, and one prior adaptation by Dabel Brothers Publishing, A New Spring. The final volume of of Jordan's series will be completed next year by Brandon Sanderson, a writer chosen by Jordan's editor/widow, Harriet McDougal. Jordan provided Dabel Brothers with extensive notes and visuals when they brought A New Spring to life in comic panels in 2005, and the word is that he was impressed with their work. This collaboration comes on the heels of Dabel Brothers Publishing's successful collaboration with Jim Butcher on The Dresden Files, a series whose first three issues sold out in first printings and will likely not see a second volume.

  Amazon.com Widgets

Any question anyone in the industry may have had about the company's ability to produce quality work after dissolving their partnership with Marvel Comics should now stand as answered, as it seems these guys have their proverbial shit together. When Robert Jordan died last year, a collective cry rang out from all of his fans, and if that is any indication, we should expect this series to be hugely successful. Dabel Brothers is one of those comic companies that does its best to stay true to cannon with their licensed properties, seeking to pull fantasy authors' visions from literary ether into visual realizations. Harriet McDougal has given her blessing, Del Rey has signed on to distribute trades, and these folks have a great reputation. The first issue should ship in December of 2008, and I think we can expect massive sales, difficult to find issues, and a gloriously accurate representation of what has become fantasy gospel since it released in 1990. Albus Dumbledore was gay!! http://www.dorkgasm.com/node/250 Now, don't go getting pissy with me. I'm serious. J.K. Rowling even said it. In an Associated Press article found on Yahoo!, J.K. Rowling outed classy headmaster Albus Dumbledore in front of a huge crowd at Carnegie Hall. She was asked by a young fan is Dumbledore finds "true love". She responded by saying "Dumbledore is gay". She went on to explain that Dumbledore was smitten with friend / rival Gellert Grindelwald. Her exact words on the subject were "Falling in love can blind us to an extent". She also added that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down" by Grindelwald's turn to evil. Apparently, this isn't the first time this was brought up. David Yates was working on the new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie when Ms. Rowling spotted a reference in the script to a girl Dumbledore was involved with. She handed a note to Yates explaining Dumbledore's orientation right then and there. The way she did it was when she found the passage in the script, she scribbled it out and scrawled "Dumbledore is gay!" on it. Nice. Okay, stop acting surprised. Remember when Albus went to visit Tom Riddle in the orphanage? He wore a purple crushed velvet suit, for crying out loud! Tell me, what straight man would wear a purple suit, let alone one made of crushed velvet? Oh, and one last note to all you homophobic Dorks out there. If I even see one mention of how you don't like Harry Potter now that one of the mainest of the main characters is out of the closet, I will be very upset. There might even be tears. http://www.dorkgasm.com/node/250#comments Print Sat, 20 Oct 2007 13:57:16 +0000 kenneth.holm 250 at http://www.dorkgasm.com Automatic Detective Cover Art Released http://www.dorkgasm.com/node/114

Coming in February (when half the staff seems to have birthdays), this one I'm personally looking forward too... Ever wonder what would happen if Asimov hung out with the Monty Python guys for a day? Yeah, my hopes are that high! http://www.dorkgasm.com/node/114#comments Print Tue, 04 Sep 2007 04:34:38 +0000 MRiedlinger 114 at http://www.dorkgasm.com
